More birds! When I fed the ponies I noticed three Southern Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos (Zanda xanthanotus) low in a tree, seemingly not bothered by me, they’re usually pretty shy. Of course I didn’t have my camera! I went home, grabbed it and headed back down to them …

They were busy ripping bark from a Wattle tree looking for wood-boring grubs, I managed to get a few close shots before they headed off up the tree.

Thanks for the visit, cheers from Tasmania 😀
They look like they are smiling for their photos! 🙂 You have so many unusual birds and animals where you live.

Maybe they found some grubs 😀 Of all the birds these are probably my favourite, they look like they lived with the dinosaurs!

They probably thought you were updating their social media accounts. 😀 I saw a documentary recently and apparently many birds descended from dinosaurs.

What? Dinosaurs had social media?!!! lol.
Dr Karl on Triple J (radio station) says that too, things to ponder over next chicken dinner!

I’ve never seen a black cockatoo.

There are also black ones with red or white on the mainland, but these are the only ones we have in Tassie. They have a very loud call but not as annoyingly piercing as the white ones.

Wow, so interesting! I just cjecked, Tasmania is about 150 miles from the the mainland. I suppose these birds could make the hop that that far.

You would think so easily. There are far smaller birds that migrate – like the Swift Parrot, maybe they’re lazy or just love Tassie too much 😀
Thanks for learning about us!

I’m just blown away by the birds you have where you live. Beautiful! I would never go anywhere without my camera!

I had my phone … no good for these though. I carry an old Sony RX100 III in my work bag and usually take my EM1 II whenever I leave the house – except on some quick trips to feed the ponies. It seems like the birds know when I don’t have it and tease me!

That’s always how it goes, isn’t it?!

I love birds and I love black. This is the perfect combo.

The bird in black … maybe his name is Johnny Cockatoo! He’s a jail bird. (Obscure reference to Johnny Cash, I’m feeling silly) 😀

He probably likes walking the line, also.
