Abandoned ship!

Another stop late on Saturday night was Otago Bay on the banks of the River Derwent, where I spent about an hour “light-painting” some old scuttled ships – or rather, what’s left of their iron frames.

The technique I used was to take 20 second exposures at ISO 200 and 400, then move around with a (cheap) portable LED floodlight, being careful to shield the light from directly entering the camera by hiding it under my coat. I used the Laowa 7.5mm f2.4 lens at f8 up fairly close and focused so the background just became sharp. These are edited from RAW files.

    1. Thank you, I learnt a fair bit taking and editing these shots by experimenting on how to better reduce noise and still retain detail and sharpness in Photoshop. I haven’t done many night shots with the Olympus and noise can be a problem. Always trying to improve 🙂

    1. No, lucky I didn’t tread on him in the dark! Fortunately the tide was right out so I could move around a lot with the light, though it was muddy.
