Budding Beard

Under the scattered canopy of the remaining guardians,
amongst the leaf litter on the recovering forest floor,
life begins anew,
purple beards bud and bloom.

I found this new Orchid a week ago hidden in plain sight, right on the corner of two fire trails. I’ve been visiting often. One of many new finds waiting bloom, to florish, to publish.

I feel like it’s an exciting secret I’ve been holding, watching these tiny buds bloom. I’ve been taking lots of photos lately, I need to catch up on editing, I’m almost bursting!

I’ve mentioned before that most of my macro shots are made up of 15 images at slightly different focus. Below is a single RAW edited shot to compare to the final stacked image below it.

Below is the in-camera focus stacked image, edited. The camera crops the image down to align the subject and produce the final JPG file.

There is more detail in the RAW image above for the parts that are in focus, but there is more detail overall in the JPG image below.

    1. Thank you for your kind words! It is a technique I would do manually on my earlier cameras and then combine images in Photoshop. It was time consuming and is much faster when the camera does it, but sometimes the results aren’t as good. The Olympus EM1 series has this stacking feature and can be bought fairly cheaply second-hand 😉

    1. Thanks John, I always appreciate your comments 😀 I’ve hit the ground running with my camera the last few weeks, really enjoying photography again, occasionally I need a break. I have been staying up late and editing the last few nights to catch up, just not enough hours in the day for sleep ;P
      There’s a few posts with surprise finds lined up 😉

Most of the limited spare time I have to jump on the PC is spent creating rather than consuming and I understand blogging is a two way street 😉 I always make time to reply to comments at least 😀

      1. Aw, thanks, Tone. I know we are all busy, and it takes a bit of time and effort to make up a blog post so it’s the least I can do to comment on it. The problem comes when we follow too many blogs and it becomes a bit unwieldy, trying to comment on them all, so I understand if you don’t find time for that. I do enjoy your posts though. I would love to have access to all those trees and plants you have nearby, not to mention the wonderful birds and other little animals you have – so different from ours.
