A nutter on The Nut

After packing and leaving our accommodation early, we headed to Stanley to visit “The Nut”. We arrived about 5 minutes before they opened and decided laziness was the order of the day, so we caught the chairlift both up and down, but walked around the entire circuit on top.

I’ve been up here a few times, every time it has blown a gale, this day was windless and Bass Straight filled with glassy reflections.
[I also seem to have picked up something on my camera sensor as it appears with different lenses … edited out of some shots].

It was that still, we could hear seals off in the distance … the shot above is a focal length of 14mm towards the North West, below is the island that can be seen off the point to the left above, taken at 300mm, the inset is cropped to 100% – you can see the seals lying on the shore!

We could also hear the workmen at Highfield House off in the distance below.

You don’t often see Bass Straight like this, known to be one of the roughest stretches of water in the world between Tasmania and the Australian mainland.

But wait, there’s more … in the next post, we’ll continue our stroll on top of The Nut 😀

MUSIC: Why not? I don’t wanna talk, I just wanna dance! My family never danced much, though I remember monthly “cabarets” as a kid – kind of country and western dance nights at my Uncle’s hotel at Parattah – in the middle of Tasmania, in the middle of nowhere – but now I love it! Join me for a dance, let loose with Glass Animals, this time something a little more modern and fun …

    1. Thanks Morgaine, unfortunately you will see in the next post, the top of the nut is spoilt with weeds, but there is a little sheltered pocket of magic also to see. Feeling a bit drained tonight after a latish night putting this post up and a ride today, so maybe it will be up tomorrow night. Soaking up the healing energy you sent me, thanks 😀

    1. Thanks Marc, glad you liked the band, hope you danced like no one was watching 😉 The ever changing light moving through the clouds and reflecting of the still water was magic and a real treat!
