kunanyi, Hobarts big back-yard

These two images of sunset over the mountain were taken moments apart around 5.30pm on my way home.

While taking the second zoomed shot, my intention was to edit it in mono, but when I turned up the vibrance, beautiful and unexpected colour burst forth.

The version below is the same photo obviously pushed beyond natural colour limits to demonstrate what the camera’s image sensor picked up, like a massive rainbow across the mountain, presumably reflected off the illuminated cloud shown in the wider angle image.

It has snowed heavily across Tasmania over the last day or two, with more to come due to an intense low pushing weather up from Antarctica. There’s been snow to sea level and highway’s made impassable, yet remarkably no snow has settled below about 600m around the foothills Mt Wellington.
