A series of twelve random local bird photos that have been sitting in my “unpublished” folder for some time. It’s about time they flew onto my blog ๐

Green Rosella’s love munching on Manferns and are regular visitors to the valley.

A lovely male Scarlet Robin looking for bugs – and probably a lady Robin, enjoying the sunshine.

I had trouble identifying these two well camouflaged birds, likely Scrubwrens or Thornbills. This is the only time I have seen them!

A New Holland Honey-Eater flitting about looking for nectar in a Gravillea.

I was unable to identify this bird and this is the only time I have seen one here. Lucky to get this shot as it launched into flight! Image cropped below.

A Magpie having a chat with a rabbit.

I don’t often get successful shots of Forest Ravens, commonly and mistakenly called Crows locally. This sub-species is endemic only to Tasmania.

Forest Ravens will attack Wedge-Tailed Eagles, often in gangs to defend nesting areas.
Thanks for landing on my perch, have a lovely day ๐
Very beautiful bird photos, Tone! We have nothing like that here, thanks for sharing!

Thanks John,
we certainly have our share of unique species here on this relatively isolated island at the bottom of the world!

Right, that fascinates me! Maybe mainland Australia and Tasmania were once connected because of much lower ocean levels.

You are so lucky to have all these exotic birds near you. Beautiful photos, especially the honey eater that you cropped for your header.

Thanks Anneli, we get many more bird varieties in our valley now than when we first moved in, thanks to the addition of many flowering plants. I always try to pause and enjoy them but don’t often have the time to photograph them properly.

Even enjoying them in the moment is wonderful.

These are spectacular! I wonder what the magpie and rabbit were discussing. ๐

Thanks Morgaine, it does look like they were having a chat – probably talking about me behind my back!! lol.

Thank you for sharing your bird photos. I am a big fan of birds, and I especially fell in love with the melodic call of the magpie during a past stay in Australia. (It’s a far cry from the coarse caw-caw of his cousin the common crow.) ๐

Thanks, it is only in the last 3 or 4 years we have had magpies come into the valley, but they seem intent on staying. They do sing a lovely song, so they are quite welcome ๐
