Market Portraits

A quiet day at Salamanca Market, a few candid patron portraits taken with the classic Olympus Pen-F. Images straight of camera jpegs, using the onboard art presets, under exposed a stop, and onboard adjustments to tonal range.

From this spot, your being recorded without permission from at least 10 security cameras. Your privacy is assured 😉

    1. Thanks Marc,
I normally shy away from photographing people too but I’m trying hard to push myself out of my comfort zone and build my confidence. I took these with the camera down near my hip, using the flip out screen to compose, that way it is less obvious as it looks like you’re reviewing images or changing settings 😉 The people were only around 15 feet away but engaged with some sculptures. I used the 14-150mm lens.

      1. It’s the same here, Tone. They watch us while driving all over the city with cameras up high, and in the stores and casinos. The only real privacy I have is inside my home which has a camera on all four sides of the home. I’d say your local government and others are spying on you.

    1. Thanks Graham,
I generally avoid the in camera preset art filters but decided to challenge myself to not edit – or at least reduce editing the photos. I mainly used two different filters – the higher contrast grainier one is called “Grainy Film II”. Some only have minor level adjustments and minimal cropping.

    1. Thanks Anneli,
Candid shots are much better, posed ones never seem to look natural. Many of the compositions here were somewhat accidental, I was mainly looking for peoples expressions and engagement with the sculptures they were viewing to capture human emotion and connections.
