I visited my beautiful purple bearded orchid friend again, to find a bug nesting on the top unopened bud. The second bud was also beginning to open.

I decided to start shooting from the top while the bug was still. It wasn’t until I was editing these later, that I noticed his leg and wing are damaged.

The second bud opening …

And if your not sick of her, the bearded lady smiling in the sunshine! This stunning little orchid is lasting longer than I expected 😀

Thanks for visiting, I think she wants a kiss!!
Awesome shoots, I use to use my Nikon D7100 with Nikon 105mm Macro lens for flowers and insects and enjoy doing it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ali, I used to shoot with Nikon too 😀 I love the compactness and weight of the M4/3 system, 100% happy I switched to Olympus/OMD! I don’t miss carrying 8kg of Nikon gear.

Amazing find! From bud to beginning to open to full bloom on one plant is so unique. I even like the bug! 🙂

I thought it was an ant at first, I haven’t tried to find out what type it is. Glad it sat still 😀

I don’t usually give bugs a second thought except for how to avoid them, but you actually have me feeling sorry for this one. How observant of you to notice his damaged leg and wing. Poor little guy. I hope it doesn’t hurt.

I liked he colour and appreciated him staying still but I might have taken him to the vet if I’d noticed while I was there … or maybe not 😉

Even a little bug is to be pitied when it’s hurt. Not sure the vet could do much for him. Hahaha. The idea of it…. Still, I did feel sorry for him when I saw the picture.

Thanks Michael, I didn’t even give that a thought! The Bearded Orchids I found were scattered and isolated at least 100 metres apart.
