Another Greenhood Orchid, this one was found by another photographer I chat to and we swapped some locations. I photographed it last week. The insect in the shot below gives some sense of scale, these orchids aren’t very big and can be hard to spot!

While I do spend time editing my images, I generally try to keep them looking fairly natural and as I saw them to a large degree. With these ones, both shooting and editing, I was trying to push the detail of the translucent hood, it really is an amazing thing to see in the flesh.

Photographed with Olympus OM1, M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm F2.8 Macro lens.
Focus stacked in camera Jpeg files edited in DxO Photolab 6, then final level adjustments and cropping in Adobe CS6 (last non-subscription).
Thanks for stopping by,
Tone 😀
You were able to portray that transparent part in this orchid very beautifully.

Thanks, I under exposed by a stop to preserve the highlights. I think the light was better/less harsh than the previous one I photographed.

Amazing and beautiful photos, Tone! You captured the translucence well. 😊

Thanks John, I deliberately under exposed it to preserve the highlights and the light was more diffused than the previous Greenhood I found. The flower was probably a little fresher too 😀

This one certainly looks at home in a faerie garden!! When the wind blows, the Orchid head nods – which looks cute but can make taking stacked focus photos very difficult!

It almost looks like the head of a little alien.

It does! When the wind blows they nod at you as well – it makes taking their photo difficult though.

It’s a good thing they’re small or you might get nightmares of little green creatures visiting you and maybe stealing your camera to see the photos.

I found an even smaller Maroon one on Friday .. much closer to home! I hope they don’t sprout legs!!!
