(9 images) – To celebrate winter solstice, Hobart locals paint the town red and party to warm up. We drove into town Saturday night, with lines around the block and questionable social distancing, we gave up.
These were taken around the wharf on my way home from work, when it was much quieter.

I’ve heard of the Dark Mofo Festival, I would love to go some time! This is awesome, great pics 🙂

It has really injected some much needed life into Hobart’s darkest days. Now it feels like spring is just around the corner as the days lengthen and the bulbs begin to come through.

Thanks, the organiser likes to cause controversy, they were upside down one year and upset some folk.

I’ve never heard of this festival. Sounds very intriguing! The moon photo is really cool-the aliens have landed 😀

Thanks, the light towers do look a bit like Darlecks from Dr Who. The moon caught my eye as I walked past one.

I’m glad I’m not alone in never having heard of this festival, but I looked up a bit about it on the Internet, and of course found the good and bad of it. Dark MoFo sounds like the stuff of nightmares and some parts are a bit creepy, but in general it’s great to have a celebration of the solstice.

The organisers certainly like to push the boundaries and have caused plenty of controversy over the years, but it’s all in the name of “art” and is usually lots of fun!
